Trivium & Arch Enemy at Baltimore Soundstage on 10/31/17

Trivium and Arch Enemy came to Baltimore Soundstage on Halloween and delivered a powerful show that did not disappoint. The impressive lineup started with Fit for an Autopsy taking the stage – dressed for the holiday – with lead singer Joe Badolato dressed as Batman. They kicked it off setting the foundation for what turned out to be an unbelievably high energy show filled with phenomenal guitarists and metal vocals that hit the Halloween mood on the head.

While She Sleeps from Sheffield, England took the stage second and skyrocketed the tempo of the show to a whole other level. Between bassist Aaran McKenzie and vocalist Lawrence Taylor’s frequent visits to the crowd, the band was using the stage and swinging speakers to give the fans everything they could want from a live performance.

While She Sleeps put on a show like no other and set the bar for Arch Enemy to do what they do best. Arch Enemy brought some of their best past work, as well as their material from the new album, Will to Power, which shows a new side of Arch Enemy and brings melodic clean vocals for the first time in the band’s discography. Arch Enemy proved that they can still develop further as musicians even though they are incredibly talented and are producing some of their best content yet. The set provided material that longtime fans love, and they are still able to reach a wider audience as they develop their sound further.

Trivium wrapped the night to a packed venue as costumed crowd surfers battered the barricade and ecstatic fans belted out the lyrics to their favorite tracks. If you can catch this tour, it is definitely one you do not want to miss!

Phil Lesh & The Terrapin Family Band at The Anthem on 10/25/17

Phil Lesh and The Terrapin Family band came to Washington, D.C.’s newest venue, The Anthem, on Oct. 25, and put on a performance that showed just how much music can bring people together. Lesh, who is one of the founding members and bassist of the legendary band Grateful Dead, steers away from long tours and instead plays short stints and festivals which makes these shows that much more special. The Terrapin Family Band , which consists of Phil Lesh on bass and vocals, his son Grahame Lesh, on guitar and vocals, Alex Koford on drums and vocals, Ross James on guitar, and Jason Crosby on keys. They were also joined by Nicki Bluhm and Robert Randolph, who joined the Band for the entire show. The Band played two sets and was joined by the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, who played the second set and performed two songs on their own. The Terrapin Family Band

During the show, the senior Lesh took the opportunity to talk about how lucky he was to be alive as he underwent a liver transplant 18 years ago and it was all thanks to a man named Cody whose name is displayed on the arm band he wears frequently. Cody saved eight lives due to organ donation, including Phil Lesh with his donation. Realizing how fortunate he was to be saved by Cody’s decision to be an organ donor, Phil Lesh also asked that everyone consider saving a life by doing the same.  

Overall, the show was what audiences have come to expect from the Grateful Dead type bands, which is one with an awesome atmosphere that welcomes everyone and has some of the most passionate fans in music. The Terrapin Family Band was completely in tune with each other as they performed their brilliant jams. They are clearly close and obviously love performing as well as bringing the music to the fans. This was made abundantly clear as they were frequently seen making eye contact and smiling as they felt each other out while making their way through the jams.

In This Moment at The National on 10/10/17

In This Moment performed at Richmond’s The National earlier this week. The metal band put on a show that displayed outstanding visuals, which were accomplished by the strategically placed fog and magnificent lighting. The effect created stunning silhouettes that really immerse the fans in the environment. The show featured a number of prop and costume changes, and proves that In This Moment has one of the most hardworking and professional crews in the music industry.

In This Moment is currently touring in support of their recent new album “Ritual,” which was released in July. The fall portion of the “Half God, Half Devil” tour featured Of Mice & Men and Avatar. In This Moment played some of their biggest hits such as Black Wedding, Roots and Adrenalize while finishing the show with an encore of the popular song “Whore,” which brought lead singer Maria Brink out to a podium wearing a dunce cap with the song’s title on full display while being immediately flanked by the band’s two masked dancers, called the blood girls, carrying their shame signs and wearing puritan attire adorned with the blood “W” on their chests. The show ended with the venue being covered by red and white balloons that were released during the encore and fans excitedly punched them into the air as the show came to a close. Fans cheered as Maria came to the front of the stage to pass out roses to fans and one lucky fan got the signed dunce cap that she wore in the encore.

Daddy Yankee at Wolf Trap on 9/17/17

Wolf Trap closed the summer season on Sunday at the Filene Center in Vienna, Va., with the international hit maker Daddy Yankee. It was a night filled with dancing and music as two separate Zumba flash mobs formed shortly after doors opened. Coming from Puerto Rico, the producer and rapper has become famous for his mixture of Latin and Caribbean beats that have elevated him to the top of the music charts with hits like “Gasolina,” “Rompe,” and the undisputed song of the summer “Despacito.” He put on an exciting performance as the choreographed dancers backflipped around the stage and air cannons shot out massive streams of smoke. The entire event was an experience I would recommend to anyone looking for an exciting time. It was a giant party from the time the doors opened.  This year’s summer line up shows a promising change in the type of acts that we will start to see at the historic venue known for its orchestras and ballets.
